At Oxentia, we’re passionate about building innovation capacity that drives real-world impact so when MRANTI, Malaysia’s agency for science and innovation, realised there weren’t enough skilled professionals to help turn research into real-world solutions, they teamed up with us. Together, we launched the MRANTI Technology Transfer Fellowship—a hands-on programme designed to help up-and-coming technology transfer specialists gain the skills and confidence they need.

The Challenge

Malaysia’s ambitious plans for science and technology meant the country needed more experts who could bridge the gap between research and industry. MRANTI saw that this shortage was holding back progress, so they set out to build a stronger pipeline of talent.

Our Approach

Oxentia designed and delivered the MRANTI Technology Transfer Fellowship (MTTF), a hybrid training and mentoring programme targeting 40 emerging technology transfer professionals. The initiative focused on:

  • Capability Building: Four ATTP-accredited training courses covering intellectual property strategy, technology valuation, commercialising digital know-how, and industry engagement.
  • Progression to Global Accreditation: Participants received hands-on guidance through the Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) application process, including two dedicated workshops for peer learning and practical support.
  • Tailored Mentorship: Each participant benefited from 60 hours of remote mentoring, reviewing career pathways and RTTP applications, and identifying evidence for successful accreditation.
  • Flexible Delivery: The programme blended in-person sessions at MRANTI’s Kuala Lumpur premises with interactive online courses, using tools like Miro and Kahoot to maximise engagement.

Impact & Metrics

Delivered between October 2023 and June 2024, the MTTF programme achieved measurable results:

  • 60+ Continuing Education Points: Each participant earned over 60 points, qualifying them to submit RTTP applications.
  • 40 Professionals Advanced: A full cohort progressed towards global recognition under ATTP standards.
  • Practical Skills Gained: Participants developed expertise in licensing, valuation, stakeholder engagement, and IP commercialisation.
  • Ecosystem Strengthened: MRANTI enhanced its internal team and built broader institutional capacity across Malaysia’s innovation landscape.

The MTTF programme reinforced MRANTI’s role as a national leader in innovation capacity-building, supporting its strategic goal to become Malaysia’s central hub for research commercialisation and ecosystem development.
